Vision, Mission and Values

THE BRITISH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE PANAMA was established in 2012 with the aim of furthering trade promotion between Panama and the UK. Our membership represents a variety of sectors from legal and tax services to mining. We are a complement to the trade activities carried out by our partners in UK Trade and Investment and the British Embassy in Panama.

To provide members with business opportunities between Panama and the UK through events, seminars and connections.

Board of Directors

Our Board of Directors is comprised of volunteers that work to advance the mission of the British Chamber of Commerce Panama. They are well-known and leading professionals in a number of different industries in local and global communities. The directors serve two-year terms and are elected through a General Body election.

Samantha Whay-Jenkins

Chairman

Currently the Training Director for King’s College Panama, Samantha provides bespoke training and consultancy programmes for businesses. She previously operated a training business in Spain in areas such as team development, management and communications.

Dan Boersner

Vice-Chairman

Previously Chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce in Venezuela, Dan has a rich experience in working with business associations. He has extensive knowledge in business development, project management and company-client relationships. Dan is the legal representative of Biwater International in Panama.

Dr. Ian F. Collard

Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Panama

Dr. Collard is a career diplomat who was appointed Her Majesty’s emissary to Panama in 2013. Ever since his appointment, he has worked tirelessly to advance commercial relations between Panama and the UK on a government level. He serves as an advisor to the BCCP Board of Directors on matters related to UK-Panama trade.

Ernesto Lara

Secretary

Currently CEO of Wellington Chambers, a boutique legal advisory and financial services company with an international client base. His work has allowed him to advise clients on investments in different sectors from mining to forestry. He completed his higher education in New Zealand and has worked in New Zealand, UK and Panama.

Allan Baitel

Treasurer

A veteran of the Colon Free Zone, Allan has been instrumental in providing commercial connections to British businesses in Colon. He is an active member of the Panamanian Olympic Committee. Allan is also developing a world-class marina on the Atlantic side of the country to provide docking and marine services for boating enthusiasts.

Dr. John Meredith, CBE

Director

A maverick and pioneer in the container shipping industry, Dr. Meredith was the Managing Director of Hutchinson Port Holdings, the world’s largest port operator. His rich experience in the logistics and maritime sector has won him numerous recognitions, including an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Western Ontario, and the Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Andrew Mullen, MBE

Director

Andrew is CEO of CSC Group, a company that provides security solutions. He was awarded with an MBE in 2010 for his efforts in promoting British commercial interests in Guatemala, charitable activities and services to the British community there. He now resides in Panama and is an avid supporter of expanding the UK’s commercial footprint here.

Alex Donkersloot

Director

Alex is a veteran of the tourism industry, with experience in managing hotels and tourism consulting. He is a very active member of the local business community, having served on the Board of Directors of the Panamanian Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (CCIYAP), the Panamanian Association of Company Executives (APEDE), the Tourism Association, and the Panamanian Hotels Association. Currently, Alex runs his own translations company called HOMAX.

Simon Owen

Director

Simon is Managing Director of Hyperion Risk Solutions, an insurance and reinsurance advisory firm. He has spent many years in the finance and insurance industries, particularly in investment strategies and reinsurance solutions. He has been on the Board of Directors of the British Virgin Islands Association of Insurance Managers and the Joint Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Advisory Committee. Simon has been an important advisor to all of the BCCP’s activities throughout the years.

David Taylor

Director

Currently a senior project manager at Port of Singapore Authority in Panama, David is one of the newer Directors in the BCCP. He has worked for many years as an engineer in various companies dedicated to infrastructure projects. David has been a vital connection between the BCCP and the British community in Panama.

Ariel Perez

UK Trade and Investment Director

Ariel heads the Department of International Trade at the British Embassy, and oversees the implementation of British foreign trade policy in Panama. He has previously worked at the Political and Prosperity departments at the Embassy, and has an in-depth knowledge of British economic and commercial interests in Panama. He serves as an advisor to the Board of Directors of the British Chamber of Commerce.
