On 10 June 2016 the British Chamber of Commerce Panama had the pleasure of attending the 1st Mare Forum Panama titled “Panama, the Singapore of the Western Hemisphere”. Mare Forum is a Dutch conference management and organisation company with a focus on the maritime industry. We were invited by our member, Aymard Jimenez Granda (Cayman Islands Shipping Registry), who was one of the sponsors of the event.
The Forum was organised in the shadows of the inauguration of the expanded Panama Canal, and brought together key stakeholders of the maritime industry in Panama, including Jorge Quijano, the Panama Canal Authority Administrator, and Tomas Avila, Secretary General of the Panama Maritime Authority.
Some of the topics presented and discussed were the state of the Panamanian Shipping Registry and upcoming port projects, the state of the global shipping industry, the yacht market, and sea tourism in Panama, among others.
The panelists and attendants consisted of both local and international government authorities and business executives. We are very proud that our members Aymard Jimenez Granda (Cayman Islands Shipping Registry), and Belisario Porras (Patton, Moreno & Asvat) were present as panelists. Additionally, fellow member Henri Kardonski, from London & Regional, gave a presentation on Panama Pacifico.
We would like to thank Aymard J. Granda for extending an invitation to the British Chamber to attend this event. We will do our best to get the presentations from this conference and post them on our website.
